We are having our OWN Biennale here in Singapore. Way hay!!
There is almost S$6 mil dollars and Fumio Nanjo. Its like art-singapore
getting a shot of a performance booster..Its like turbocharging the art
scene here...Or is it like serving up a feast of art to a starved
population? Or perhaps Singapore getting a 5-star treatment when it was
only expecting two? I am having difficulty with this ..
I am fortunate to be here during these exciting times. Truly. Its is
first of its kind in this region. It is going to kick ass.
I would love to be part of it. Alas I am trying to jump before I can
walk. But I can dream..
I keep trying to decipher the 'call for artists' below..
What is that the curators will be looking for? What sort of work will be
admitted into this biennale? How can I prepare for the application? What
should I put in my portfolio? Any ideas anyone?? Please...
Open Call for Artists in Singapore to Submit Portfolios
Singapore’s first visual arts biennale, Singapore Biennale 2006
(SB2006), helmed by the highly accomplished Fumio Nanjo, Deputy Director
of Tokyo’s Mori Art Museum, is the first major international
contemporary art event of its kind in Southeast Asia. It will provide a
platform for exchange, dialogue and presentation of international art
practices, with a focus on those from and of Singapore and Asia. As an
open element of the curatorial research process, we invite all artists
working in Singapore to submit their portfolios to the Singapore
Biennale Secretariat for the curatorial team’s consideration. More
information can be found here.
Deadline for submission is 15 July 2005.
